Our Beliefs
Our beliefs are based on the teachings of Jean Piaget.
-Children grow and develop at different rates. Each child's
rate is separate and distinct from that of any other child.
-Children are curious beings. They are eager to learn,
therefore, they learn best when they are able to follow many of
their own interests and desires to learn.
-Children learn and work through play.
-Children learn from direct interaction with other children:
they learn to experience a sense of responsibility the
achievement, to respect themselves and others, and to learn how
to learn.
-Each child is a unique individual and must be appreciated
and valued for his/her individuality in all areas.
Our Goals
- We wish to foster social development by encouraging sharing and cooperation, by encouraging each child to play and work well independently and in groups, and by helping each child recognize the rights and feelings of others.
- We wish to make each child's school experience a positive one.
- We wish to foster emotional development by encouraging positive feelings about self, by aiding each child to adjust to new situations and by helping a child build self confidence and esteem in which to strengthen his or her self image and promote gains in learning.
- We wish to foster cognitive development by providing opportunities for thinking at all levels, by stimulating each child's thought processes to bring awareness and curiosity, by providing opportunities for self-expression for each child through language, dramatics, art, music and play.
- We want to provide an environment and activities which promote optimum physical development through the use of outdoor and indoor activities and exercises such as jumping, pulling, climbing for facilitating the use of large motor skills, as well as
manipulatives such as blocks and puzzles for facilitating the use of small motor
skills.
- We wish to foster independence in tending to personal needs.
- We wish to encourage safety practices in and out of school.
- We wish to encourage each child's free artistic development and creativity.
- We wish to provide different medias for creative expression.
- We wish to foster appreciation for music and the fine arts.
- We wish to foster frequent communication between parents and teachers about each child's overall development.
Our environment will accommodate and promote many different types and levels of learning.
